Wangaratta nabbed the lead late in the game in a 17-5 victory over Benalla Bandits A on Sunday. The game was tied at five with the Rangers batting in the top of the fourth when an error scored two runs for Wangaratta.
Benalla Bandits scored five runs in the first inning, but Wangaratta Rangers Black still managed to pull out the victory. The Bandits offense in the inning was led by Craig Barry, John Batman, Casey Hodgson, Dwayne Yates, and Dylan Barber, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Benalla opened up scoring in the first inning when Batman drew a walk, scoring one run.
Wangaratta took the lead for good with eight runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Aaron Parker drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Wangaratta Rangers Black, Nathan Pool singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Shaun O’Neil grounded out, scoring one run, Dale Stevens grounded out, scoring one run, and Sean Warfe singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Tetsu Kamiyama took the win for Wangaratta. He lasted two innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while walking zero.
Scott Woodstock took the loss for Benalla. He allowed eight hits and eight runs over three innings, striking out one.
Hodgson started the game for Benalla. Hodgson lasted two innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking zero Owen Godenzi started the game for Wangaratta Rangers. Godenzi lasted four innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out four
Wangaratta totaled 18 hits in the game. Parker, Warfe, Scott Jenkins, Pool, Godenzi, and O’Neil all had multiple hits for the Rangers. Jenkins, Warfe, and Parker each collected three hits to lead the Rangers offense.
Barber went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Benalla Bandits in hits.

The Rangers tallied seven runs in the fifth inning. French, Keira Dinsdale, Kelsey Burder, Jamie Samuels, Brendon French, and Heath French all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
