Wangaratta Rangers Black Defeats Wodonga Warriors White In High-Scoring Affair
The base paths were crowded today for both offenses in a high-scoring game where Wangaratta Rangers came out on top against Wodonga Warriors, 16-7.
Wodonga Warriors captured the lead in the second inning. Wodonga Warriors scored one run when Tyson Berry singled.
Wangaratta Rangers took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Nathan Pool singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Kyle Gilmore singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Wangaratta Rangers notched six runs in the eighth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Cam Scott, Pool, and Tetsu Kamiyama and an error on a ball put in play by Kelsey Burder.
Wodonga Warriors scored three runs in the second inning. Wodonga Warriors batters contributing to the big inning included Kurt Wyatt and Berry, all driving in runs in the inning.
Pool led things off on the hill for Wangaratta Rangers. He went two innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and walking zero.
Fraser Chadwick started the game for Wodonga Warriors. He went eight innings, allowing 16 runs on 15 hits and striking out nine.
Wangaratta Rangers scattered 15 hits in the game. Pool, Rob Seymour, Kamiyama, Owen Godenzi, and Shaun O’Neil all had multiple hits for Wangaratta Rangers Kamiyama, Seymour, and Pool each managed three hits to lead Wangaratta Rangers.
Wodonga Warriors totaled 15 hits. Chadwick, Wyatt, Bill Clear, Mark Cory, and Lance Keighran each collected multiple hits for Wodonga Warriors. Chadwick went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Wodonga Warriors in hits.
This Weekend the Rangers head back up the Hume to Gayview Park t take on Wodonga in both A Grade, B Grade and juniors respectively.
